At 35 years old, Nikola Kalinić has decided to retire from professional basketball, revealing his next career move via a WhatsApp announcement.
"Folks, I'm retiring. I'm becoming an assistant coach at Zvezda. Due to personal circumstances, I want to be close to Belgrade. Thanks to everyone who was part of this wild ride." - Nikola Kalinić
Kalinić will join the coaching staff of Ibon Navarro, the new head coach for Crvena zvezda Meridianbet. He never hid that he didn't want to become a coach, frequently attending coaching clinics in Belgrade. Furthermore, he has collaborated with some of Europe's most esteemed coaching minds, including Svetislav Pešić, Željko Obradović, and Šarunas Jasikevičius.
While Zvezda loses a great player, they may gain an exceptional coach. Kalinić possesses an incredible basketball IQ, and he is sure to be a valuable asset to Navarro and the rest of the coaching staff as they adapt to their new roles.
