Kahn warns Nagelsmann against Man United move: 'Every manager fails there, it would be a colossal risk'
Former Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann is among the leading candidates for the Manchester United managerial role should the club part ways with Michael Carrick. The 39-year-old tactician would certainly be open to an official approach from Old Trafford.
However, legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has expressed deep skepticism over such a move. Speaking on RTL and Sky Sport Germany, he labeled a potential appointment of Nagelsmann at Man United as a massive challenge.
"From his perspective, the situation is far from easy. He still lacks extensive experience, particularly when it comes to managing clubs abroad. What should his next move be? Should he go for a safer bet, or dive straight into a colossal risk with a team like Manchester United, where virtually every manager in recent years has eventually failed?" asked Kahn, who was Bayern Munich CEO during Nagelsmann's reign at the club.
The iconic former keeper also questioned whether the setup at Old Trafford suits the young manager: "I believe Julian has the quality to build and develop teams. But whether Manchester United is the right environment for that is something only he can judge."
For now, Michael Carrick remains at the helm. However, his future appears increasingly precarious, and a potential home defeat in Sunday's clash against Bournemouth could prove fatal to his tenure.
United's interest in Nagelsmann is not new. His name was heavily considered in Manchester following his departure from Bayern in March 2023. An agreement failed to materialize at the time, and the coach took charge of the Germany national team, where he was eventually relieved of his duties following a disappointing World Cup campaign.
Other names linked with the position include former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, Brighton's Fabian Hürzeler, and Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.
