Jović on Lucrative Miami Contract: You Secure Your Family, Change Lives, and Lose Motivation
Jović has been with Miami since 2022, earning the trust of head coach Erik Spoelstra, who embraced his versatile skillset and expanded his role with each passing season. That steady progression hit a snag by the fall of 2025, when a string of injuries sidelined him and occasionally pushed him out of the game-day rotation.
Following a breakout campaign in which he averaged 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 25.9 minutes per game, his production dipped last year to 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
The Serbian forward candidly discussed his recent struggles and mindset during the team's Media Day ahead of the new NBA season.
"At the end of the day, it's just basketball. I never felt like anything fundamentally changed about who I am. But it changed in the sense that it was something I wanted so badly, and once it actually happened, my motivation surprisingly took a slight hit, which feels strange. You would think everything gets easier after that, but mentally I actually felt a bit worse. At the same time, it is life-changing money. It secures your kids, your family—everyone's future. That brings tremendous relief. There is not much more to add to that."
Jović was joined in Miami this summer by Giannis Antetokounmpo, a blockbuster addition that signals the Heat's all-out push for an NBA championship.
