The long-awaited heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could potentially take place at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles, according to boxingscene.com.
Two official sources, privy to discussions involving Saudi boxing financier Turki Alalshikh during last month's 'Ring of Fire' event at the Pyramids of Giza, indicated that SoFi Stadium was mentioned as a preferred venue for the bout. While many British fans desire the fight to be held in their home country, staging it in an outdoor football stadium during autumn or winter would expose such a major event to the risk of inclement weather.
Other considerations exist regarding the potential staging of the fight in the western United States. However, SoFi Stadium is a covered venue accustomed to hosting large-scale sporting events. The stadium, which will host eight matches during the upcoming FIFA World Cup and the Super Bowl in February, can be configured to accommodate an audience of 100,000, with 70,240 seats for NFL games.
According to one source familiar with the matter, the preference is for the Joshua-Fury fight to be held at an NFL stadium in a region of the country with strong boxing interest.
Alalshikh previously organized his first boxing gala in the United States in Los Angeles, where five-division champion Terence Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov at BMO Stadium.
