Josh Kelly and Hamzah Sheeraz to Feature on Anthony Joshua Undercard on July 25
Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that two world title fights could feature on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Christian Prenga gala event on July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
This marks Joshua's return to the ring for the first time since a December car accident that tragically claimed the lives of two of his closest friends. Just days before the incident, Joshua had secured a decisive six-round victory over Jake Paul.
The Jeddah event will be funded by Saudi boxing organizer Turki Alalshikh, which suggests an exceptionally strong undercard. Hearn, whose company Matchroom Boxing is the lead promoter for the gala, indicated that two world champions might make their first title defenses.
The champions in question are Hamzah Sheeraz, who claimed the WBO super middleweight title last month, and Josh Kelly, who won the IBF light middleweight belt in January and is expected to face Caoimhin Agyarko.
“I think there could be two world title fights on the undercard,” Hearn told BoxingScene. “Hamzah Sheeraz could be one of the participants. Of course, we’ll be speaking with Frank Warren and Spencer Brown [Sheeraz’s promoter and manager], as well as everyone else. Josh Kelly could also be involved. This will be announced next week.”
