Running in second place behind Marc Marquez, 'The Martinator' lost the front end of his bike at the blisteringly fast Turn 8 on lap eight. The crash sent the Spaniard tumbling through the runoff area and into the gravel trap at high speed.

Martin was stretchered off and taken to the circuit's medical centre. Subsequent examinations confirmed a fracture to his right wrist, with medical officials officially declaring him unfit to compete in tomorrow's full-length race in Australia.

The full extent of Martin's recovery timeline is yet to be determined, but the timing is disastrous as Phillip Island marks the start of a demanding triple-header that also includes Malaysia and Qatar. This setback could prove decisive in an otherwise thrilling 2026 MotoGP championship battle. Marquez currently holds a 10-point lead over Martin at the top of the standings, with Marco Bezzecchi sitting third, 50 points adrift of the leader.
