In their latest unexpected roster move, the Denver Nuggets are bringing in Lonnie Walker IV from EuroLeague powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv, a league source confirmed to the Denver Post on Wednesday night, corroborating Shams Charania's report for ESPN. Walker, 27, is signing a one-year veteran minimum deal, marking his return to the NBA after spending parts of the last two seasons overseas.
The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 14.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists during his stint in the EuroLeague. He joins Alpha Diallo as the second free agent signed by Denver this summer from the EuroLeague.
Before venturing eastward — which also included a stop with Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas — Walker had already established himself as an NBA journeyman. He played 342 games, starting 95, across seven NBA seasons, primarily with the Spurs. San Antonio drafted him 18th overall in 2018 out of the University of Miami, four picks after Denver selected Michael Porter Jr.
Walker has also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Philadelphia 76ers. When he steps onto the court for Denver, it will mark his first NBA minutes since April 13, 2025. In his NBA career, he averages 10 points per game, shooting 42.2% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range.
In Denver, Walker will join a thin backcourt rotation that already includes Jamal Murray, Christian Braun, Julian Strawther, and Tyus Jones. The Nuggets now have 14 roster spots filled, leaving just one open, while contract negotiations with restricted free agent Peyton Watson remain at a stalemate.
Their payroll is now approximately $4.5 million above the second apron with the addition of Walker, whose contract carries a $2.45 million cap hit. His salary will be $3.3 million, according to Charania's report. As a team exceeding the second apron, Denver is restricted to using the veteran minimum as their only mechanism for acquiring outside free agents — though they can legally re-sign Watson for any amount.
