With Jokic's current contract with the Nuggets running through the 2026-27 season (along with a player option for 2027-28), reporters directly asked whether he plans to extend his stay in Denver—and if so, when that might happen.

The primary reason for Jokic waiting to put pen to paper comes down to financial projections. By holding off until the summer, he could become eligible for a five-year extension projected at approximately $359.5 million, compared to the four-year, $278 million deal currently on the table—a massive difference of around $80 million.

However, it should be noted that the $359.5 million figure is merely a projection at this stage rather than a locked-in deal, with final terms yet to be negotiated.

The three-time MVP enters the new campaign on the heels of another extraordinary season in which he averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game, finishing second in the MVP race.

Denver opens the regular season on October 22 with a road clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
