Honda's MotoGP team has announced that 2020 World Champion Joan Mir will miss this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard's absence from the 15th round of the season is not due to injury, but a more serious medical issue. Mir felt unwell throughout last week's San Marino Grand Prix weekend and even retired from the race on the sixth lap.

Immediately after Sunday's race, the Spaniard returned to Barcelona for tests. These revealed altered blood parameters, necessitating further medical investigation.

Consequently, Mir will not participate in this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix and will be replaced by Honda's test rider, Takaaki Nakagami. This will serve as excellent preparation for the Japanese rider's home Grand Prix in Japan in two weeks, where he will compete as a wildcard entry.
