Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia is the first player to be cut from Luis de la Fuente's Spain squad ahead of their friendly against Serbia. This decision isn't due to injury, but rather a tactical choice by the coach. De la Fuente initially called up 27 players, including four goalkeepers, meaning one had to be dropped. Garcia is that player and will watch the match from the stands at the Villarreal stadium.

Joan Garcia received his first national team call-up for the friendlies against Serbia and Egypt. The other three goalkeepers in De la Fuente's squad are Unai Simón, David Raya, and Alex Remiro. Unai Simón is expected to start tonight, with Raya likely to get playing time in the second half. The Barcelona shot-stopper will have to wait for his debut, which could potentially come in the match against Egypt, scheduled to be played in Barcelona in a few days.
