The evening's highlight was the presentation of the key to the city to the basketball player "for his incredible work benefiting the Black and people of color communities."

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu later took the stage, sharing that she attended with her city administration colleagues because "for Boston, Jaylen has always meant so much more than just basketball." Wu explained that she had personally seen the forward in the city's schools, classrooms, and parks.

"He changed the lives of people across Boston. That's why so many people are here now. That's why all our hearts are broken, and we're still trying to process what's happening. We will never let you forget us, and we will never forget you," Wu stated.

Philadelphia acquired Brown in a blockbuster trade, ending the forward's 10-year tenure in Boston. Brown helped the Celtics win the 2024 championship and was named the NBA Finals MVP. The basketball player also made significant contributions to the local community.
