"Jabari Cost Us Nearly $5 Million!" Ostoja Mijailovic Reveals Staggering Figures Behind Parker's Contract Termination
Parting ways with the American forward was a necessary move to ease the club's financial burden:
"We reached an agreement on contract termination, resolving a very challenging issue for the club. Parker had the most lucrative contract in Partizan's history, so it was our responsibility to find a solution that reduced our financial strain and allowed us to continue shaping the roster," stated Ostoja Mijailovic.
The Black-and-Whites' president then broke down the exact financial details of the settlement:
"For last season, his contract was paid in full, totaling $3,100,000 gross. For this season, we agreed on a buyout worth roughly 50 percent of his salary. In total, his stint will cost Partizan just under $5,000,000 across the two-year deal. That is a massive expense for the club, and it is important for the public to understand the exact scope of that commitment, as well as the fact that we achieved significant savings compared to the full contract value," Mijailovic explained.
Beyond the financial relief, Parker's departure also cleared a major administrative hurdle for registering new signings:
"There is an important factor that many didn't realize: as long as Parker was registered, we didn't have an available license to register a new player. His departure was a prerequisite for bringing in reinforcements. So it wasn't just about securing funds and finding a target—we had to resolve the existing roster bottleneck first," Mijailovic added.
In the meantime, the club bolstered its squad with the additions of Antonio Reeves and Robert Franks:
"I'm pleased with the new arrivals. They were selected by the head coach to fit the team's needs within the market's possibilities. I expect them to justify our trust, adapt to the coaching staff's demands, and help the team play with greater quality and consistency," said Mijailovic.
Despite mounting speculation linking KK Bosna center Reggie Perry to Partizan, Mijailovic kept his cards close to his chest:
"I won't comment on players who are currently under contract with other clubs. Regarding our roster, our needs are evaluated by the head coach and the sports sector, and the board works to provide the conditions to execute their decisions. When there is concrete news, the club will announce it."
Finally, the Partizan president reflected on their recent triumph in the Eternal Derby:
"It was a vital victory for the team and our supporters. I congratulate the players and coaching staff on their grit, discipline, and approach. The derby always carries special weight, but the season is long, and there is no room for euphoria. That energy and commitment to the jersey must remain our standard in the games ahead."
Partizan Bids Farewell to Jabari Parker
Partizan announced the news via their official social media channels.
"Jabari Parker is no longer a Partizan player! Following the end of his loan spell at Joventut, Parker returned to Belgrade but remained outside the first-team setup. Today, the player and the Club reached a mutually satisfactory agreement to terminate their partnership. KK Partizan wishes Jabari Parker the best of luck in his future career."
As a reminder, the second overall pick from the 2014 NBA Draft arrived in Belgrade as one of the highest-profile and most expensive signings in recent club history, but he failed to live up to expectations. Quickly labeled a misfit, he was loaned out to Spanish side Joventut Badalona to close out last season.
Parker returned to Belgrade over the summer but did not train with the squad, making his departure only a matter of time.
