Saša Obradović made a grand return to Crvena Zvezda in October 2025, and immediately upon taking over from Ioannis Sfairopoulos, he began to achieve phenomenal results. He managed to turn around a disastrous start to the EuroLeague season, stringing together six consecutive victories in the elite competition (following one win under interim coach Tomislav Tomović).
However, after that initial shock therapy yielded results, a slump followed, and the red-and-whites played with inconsistent form for the remainder of the season. There were incredible wins, but also painful defeats stemming from some of Obradović's decisions, which were met with disapproval from the club's fans.
His stubbornness and refusal to deviate from certain established principles were often highlighted, and ultimately, it backfired. The chemistry between him and the players suddenly vanished, confidence plummeted, the team faltered in the EuroLeague play-in, and the final straw was being swept by Partizan in the ABA League semi-finals, which sealed the coach's fate.
The second game was particularly critical, where Joan Peñarroya's team dismantled Zvezda in Pionir, securing their place in the final.
It is currently unknown who will succeed Obradović on the Zvezda bench, but the main name being circulated is the legendary Vassilis Spanoulis, who parted ways with Monaco earlier this season due to numerous disagreements. While his name is being debated as a potential candidate for next season, Milan Tomić is the most realistic option to lead the team through the remainder of the KLS season.
