Italian basketball prodigy Luigi Suigo has opened up about his NBA Draft aspirations, international ambitions, and developmental journey following his commitment to Villanova University.
The former Armani Olimpia Milano and Mega Superbet player views his move to the NCAA as the optimal launchpad for his future. The 19-year-old center, an intriguing talent standing over 7 feet tall and lauded for his modern skill set, is laser-focused on his ultimate goal.
"I'd say everything is going according to plan so far," Suigo recently told "Corriere dello Sport" regarding his development. "I've made steady progress and I'm truly happy with how things are advancing."
For the Varese-born basketball player, choosing the Wildcats was a strategic decision aimed at maximizing his draft prospects under the intense scrutiny of collegiate basketball.
"The decision to join Villanova was made solely to improve my game and secure the highest possible pick in the next NBA Draft," he stated. "We have a strong team here. Our goal is to win our conference title and make a deep run in March Madness. Personally, my aim is to perform at a level that guarantees me a spot in the top 10 of the draft," the talented prospect added.
Beyond his immediate collegiate objectives, Suigo is eager to establish himself as the undisputed face of the Italian men's national team, having progressed through all youth ranks. "I want to bring unique value to the national team and eventually, one day, become the leader of the squad," he expressed his ambition.
His combination of impressive height, shot-blocking potential, and perimeter fluidity inevitably draws comparisons to NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama. "Of course, it's an honor to be called 'the Italian Wemby,' but I know how much work lies ahead for me to truly reach that level," Suigo admitted.
