It Seems It's Done: Hezonja Leaves Real, With Only One Destination in Mind

Croatian basketball player Mario Hezonja is on the verge of returning to the NBA, according to the specialized portal "Basketnews."

Radical changes within the Spanish club, primarily the departure of Sergio Scariolo and the arrival of Pedro Martinez as head coach, have prompted the Croatian forward to seriously consider a move.

Despite an individually brilliant season where he was one of the team's leaders, the competitive year was a complete failure for Real, as they ended up without a single trophy.

The Croatian international has a valid contract with the "royal club" until 2029, but that collaboration could easily be terminated this summer.

A special clause was inserted into the contract, allowing him to move "across the pond," provided that an interested NBA franchise pays a buyout fee.

Should Hezonja decide to take that step and find engagement in America, a fixed sum of $850,000 will be paid to the Madrid club as a buyout.

His agents have already established initial contacts with teams from the world's strongest league, although the names of potential suitors are still being kept strictly confidential.

To recall, Hezonja averaged 13.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in just 23 minutes per game in the EuroLeague this season, and he has previously played in the NBA for Orlando, New York, and Portland.
