Islam Makhachev's first welterweight title defense is set for UFC 330 against top contender Ian Machado Garry.
On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Makhachev (28-1) will face Garry (17-1) in the main event on August 15 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. In the co-main event, strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern (16-5) will defend her belt against Gillian Robertson (17-8).
Makhachev claimed the welterweight title with a dominant decision victory over Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. Prior to that, he held the UFC lightweight title, successfully defending it a record four consecutive times before vacating it to move up to the 170-pound division. Since his only loss in 2015, Makhachev has been on a 16-fight winning streak.
This is a dream come true for Garry, who has been campaigning for an official bout with Makhachev amidst frequent rumors that he would be the Dagestani's first challenger. The fighter nicknamed "The Future" started his career with 15 consecutive wins before losing a decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov, but has since bounced back with two consecutive victories over former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates.
Also announced for the event was a pivotal women's flyweight bout between No. 4 ranked Erin Blanchfield and No. 6 ranked Jasmine Jasudavicius. Blanchfield (14-2) is on a two-fight winning streak, coming off a submission victory over Tracy Cortez in November. Jasudavicius (15-4), for her part, secured a decision win over Karine Silva in her last appearance in April.
