Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas has sharply criticized the Boston Celtics for their handling of Jaylen Brown's departure. Thomas believes the organization could have managed the exit of their long-serving star much more gracefully before trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers.
In an interview with NBA Radio, Thomas expressed his surprise at Boston's actions, noting that the Celtics are traditionally regarded as one of the NBA's most well-managed and respected franchises.
“They definitely could have handled it better. I don't think any of us have seen the Celtics operate this way before. They've always been a model organization,” Thomas stated.
The former NBA champion defended Brown, emphasizing his belief that the player unfairly bore the brunt of the negativity surrounding the situation.
“I think Jaylen Brown was an innocent bystander in all of this. He just found himself in the spotlight, and people started criticizing him without cause,” Thomas added.
The legendary guard's comments raise questions about how Boston managed the separation with Brown, a player who was a key figure for the Celtics for many years.
