The Czech Republic edged out Ireland 4-3 in a penalty shootout after their playoff match ended 2-2 following 90 minutes and extra time.

The playoff in Prague started perfectly for the Irish. By the 23rd minute, they held a two-goal advantage, courtesy of a penalty converted by Parrott (19th minute) and an own goal from goalkeeper Kovar.

Ireland Squanders Two-Goal Lead

However, their lead didn't last. The Czech Republic clawed their way back into the game with a penalty of their own, scored by Schick (27th minute), and leveled the score four minutes before the end of regular time through Krejci. With no further goals in the two periods of extra time, the tie was decided by a penalty shootout.

The hosts prevailed 4-3, but the Irish are alleging that Czech fans overstepped the mark in their attempts to distract opposing penalty takers. Specifically, a siren reportedly blared from the stands every time an Irish player approached the spot to take their shot.

Irish Supporters Accuse: "The Czechs Cheated!"

The Irish claim that the piercing sound of the siren caused Finn Azaz and Alan Browne to miss the visitors' final penalties, and they are now demanding that UEFA launch an investigation.

"The Czechs cheated, stopping every time before shooting to see where the goalkeeper would dive. Then they'd activate a siren to distract our players when they took their penalties," an Irish fan posted on social media.

Another fan angrily exclaimed: "There needs to be an investigation into the penalty shootout; the Czechs set off a siren every time the Irish took a shot, which is disgraceful."

The Czech players, for their part, missed only one penalty, taken by Mojmír Chytil. On Tuesday, they will face Denmark in the final World Cup playoff match, aiming to secure a spot in this summer's tournament.

For Ireland, however, the wait for another World Cup appearance, after their last in 2002, continues.
