Inter Milan's management is reportedly preparing a bid for English international defender Djed Spence, according to local press. The Tottenham Hotspur full-back would command a higher fee than Anan Khalaili, but the Milanese giants are still ready to initiate negotiations with the London club. Inter is seeking a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who recently moved to Real Madrid after the 'royal club' triggered his €20 million release clause. The Italian champions' primary target, Marco Palestra, opted to join Chelsea. Meanwhile, Khalaili failed his medical examination this week, leaving the Serie A title holders in search of a new right wing-back.
Gazzetta, Sky Sport Italia, and Corriere dello Sport all suggest that Spence is quickly becoming Inter's preferred target. However, the Nerazzurri are still exploring the market and have a long list of candidates, which includes Guela Doué from Strasbourg. According to the same sources, Spence's price tag will exceed the €25-30 million Inter was prepared to invest in Khalaili. A permanent transfer for Khalaili was projected at €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses.
Despite the higher cost, Sky reports that the Nerazzurri are determined to enter negotiations with Tottenham. Informal contacts have already been made, with Cristian Romero also being mentioned. However, the Argentine center-back would cost even more than Spence, as the Spurs have set a €50 million valuation for him.
