Incredible Feat. Belgians End Spanish Goalkeeper's Record Streak

Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon's record-breaking clean sheet streak at the World Cup ended in the quarter-finals. His invincibility at the World Cups lasted 649 minutes before Charles De Ketelaere scored in the 41st minute against Belgium, leveling the score at 1-1.

Spain had been the only team in the tournament across the USA, Canada, and Mexico not to concede a goal until then. Simon had already surpassed Italian Walter Zenga's record in the Round of 16 against Austria. Zenga had kept a clean sheet for 517 minutes from the opening match until the semi-finals at the 1990 home World Cup.

Simon's streak began at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar when Ao Tanaka beat him in the 51st minute of the final group stage match against Japan. Spain's subsequent elimination in the Round of 16 against Morocco came after a goalless draw, decided by a penalty shootout.

At the current World Cup, he maintained clean sheets against Cape Verde (0-0), Saudi Arabia (4-0), Uruguay (1-0), Austria (3-0), and Portugal (1-0), as reported by DPA.
