Female singer arrested, faces 10 years imprisonment for releasing raunchy music video
Ugandan pop star, Jeminah Kansiime a.k.a Panado wa Basajja risks a 10-year jail term for allegedly producing a raunchy promotional video for her song, ‘Ensolio Yange’ (Medicine for Men).
According to reports in local Ugandan media, Panado is allegedly being held under the 2014 anti-pornography law and has already spent five weeks in jail, while her manager Didi Mugisha, who was also arrested was fined 200,000 Ugandan shillings ($67).
The video is a montage of Panado wa Basajja delivering her lines, with certain scenes showing her locked in an embrace with a man, and also lathering her body while scantily clothed in a G-string pant.
The pop star faces up to 10 years in jail for the video if found guilty, and Ugandan lawmakers have described the visual which runs for over four minutes, as ‘obscene’ and ‘vulgar’.
She has been charged for ‘willfully and unlawfully producing, trafficking, importing, selling, and abetting pornography.’ The date for her hearing is yet to be confirmed.
