New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced his candidacy for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday, joining a large field of contenders seeking to win the White House next year.

The brash Christie, 52, launched his campaign at Livingston High School in New Jersey, where he was once class president.

He praised his home state during his speech, sharing how working as governor inspired him to run for president. Christie also took hits at lawmakers in Washington, including President Barack Obama, claiming a lack of productivity from Congress is giving Americans anxiety.
