Two Nigerians in Sierra Leone have been diagnosed with the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The victims, who are resident in Freetown, include a 27-year-old indigene of Abia State and a 22-year-old indigene of Edo State.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan on Thursday, October 30, while declaring open the National Council for Health (NCH) meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The minister said:
“Official information reaching the Ministry from Sierra Leone Health Officials confirmed that two Nigerians resident in Free Town were recently diagnosed with Ebola Virus Disease.”
“Details of these two cases shall be made available when a detailed investigation of their status is concluded. Both Nigerians received treatment in isolation centres in Freetown, Sierra Leone and one of them has indeed been successfully treated and is technically cured and has returned to Nigeria”, he said.
Alhassan also added that despite Nigeria’s Ebola-free status, efforts against the disease must continue in the country to prevent a recurrence.
