According to a report by The Punch, the gunmen attacked the community while residents were celebrating during the early hours of the new year.

The gunmen are suspected to be working for a former militant leader, Don Nwanee.

The police spokesperson in the state, Omoni Nnamdi, confirmed the incident but couldn't reveal the exact number of casualties.

Chairman of the LGA, Osi Olisa, later revealed that a total of 17 people lost their lives to the attack.
