Man, 64, docked for alleged theft of N578,400 worth of diesel

For allegedly stealing 300 litres of diesel worth N578,400, a 64-year-old man, Adeyemi Adeleke, was on Thursday charged before an Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun.

Adeleke, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ebibomino Itaita, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offence on Oct. 25 at about 3.00 a.m. at Precious Pee Filling Station, Atan, Ota.

Itaita said that the accused and his accomplices conspired to steal 300 litres of diesel valued at N578,400 belonging to one Adeniji Adebanjo.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 390 and 516 of Criminal Code, Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr B.J. Ojikutu, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ojikutu said that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and should be gainfully employed.

He also ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and produce evidence of tax payment from Ogun Government.

In addition, the sureties should submit four passport photographs to the court and their addresses should be verified by the Police.

The case was adjourned till Dec.19 for hearing.
