Unemployed man in court for alleged theft of gas cylinders

The police on Monday arraigned a 35- year-old applicant, Leye Adamu, at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged theft of two gas cylinders worth N27,000.

Adamu of no fixed address is facing a one-count charge of stealing two gas cylinders belonging to Lolu Akeem, the complainant.

The Prosecutor, Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 5 at No. 3, Hundeyin Str., Ajara, Badagry in Lagos state.

“The accused was supposed to have taken the gas cylinders for refilling at a gas station and to return them back to the owner."

“Instead of doing that, he sold the cylinders and ran away,” Uko told the court.

Uko said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the ccharge.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Godwin Adebayo, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.

Etti said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, and adjourned the case till March 13 for hearing.
