Man in court over alleged forgery of N3m cheque

A 46-year-old man, Ayoola Bamidele, who allegedly made an attempt to withdraw N3 million with a forged cheque, was on Friday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos.

The accused, whose address was not given, is standing trial on two-count charge of stealing and forgery.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Idowu Oshungbure, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 5, at about 1:15pm, at No. 3, Akin St., Lagos Island, Lagos.

Oshungbure said that the accused forged a duly stamped Skye Bank cheque worth N3 million and attempted to withdraw the money with it.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 363 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr P. A. Adekumaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Adekumaiya said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant.

He adjourned the case till Jan. 19, for mention.
