45-year-old driver arraigned for raping and impregnating 16-yr-old girl

45-year-old driver, Ganiyu Afolabi, was yesterday charged before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16-year-old girl.

The accused, who lives at Meiran area of Lagos State, was said to have called the victim to his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand and defiled her.

The suspect was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge of sexual assault, defilement and attempt to procure abortion.

However, when the charge was read to the accused before Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sgt Jimah Iseghede, informed the court that the alleged offences were committed in May at the accused’s residence and contravened Sections 137, 145 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody until September 9 when the court would rule on his bail application.
