9 people killed in fatal storm in Germany, Austria

No fewer than 9 people have been killed in strong winds that swept across Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom.

BBC reports that among those killed were 2 men in Germany whose car was hit by a tree, 7 others were also killed while dozens others were injured from flying branches.

Another man in Birmingham, UK, was also seriously injured when his car was crushed by a falling tree while another in Austria fell from a ladder and suffered fatal head injuries while securing an awning over his patio.

Reports say rail services were disrupted and the main station in Munich had to be evacuated due to concerns that parts of the roof might collapse.

Huge winds were also recorded in the Netherlands with a speed of 120km/h according to Weeronline, leaving toppled lorries scattered across the Dutch roads.

The storm also disrupted flights at airports in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.
