The clergy license of Mahmoud Al Mughaz, an Egyptian imam has been suspended by the Egyptian authorities, after allegedly being accused of using the term ‘The prayer is better than the Facebook.’
The term was used in place of the Arabic exhortation, ‘The prayer is better than sleep.’ during a call to prayer in an act to reproach Facebook users.
“He will be questioned and will receive a deterrent penalty if found guilty,” said Mohammad Abdul Razeq , the ministry’s religious department.
”He could be expelled from his job if the accusation against him is proven,” Al Masry Al Youm, another clergy said.
According to ‘Gulf news’ The imam denied the allegations, further stating that his followers are only saying that because he refused to allow them use the mosque for political reasons.
