Five people, including three children, were killed when a light plane crashed in southern Bosnia on Saturday, police said.

The police were alerted at 3:50 pm (1550 GMT) "that a plane had crashed near Mostar. Five people were killed: the pilot, three children and a young man," a police official in Mostar told AFP.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

There was an open day at Mostar airport on Saturday, including tourist flights over the town and parachute jumps.

Planes were flying over the area all day, according to witnesses cited by local press.
