At least 18 killed in Algerian ethnic clashes - medical sources

The violence broke out over the weekend, with security forces sending reinforcements in a bid to calm down the renewed clashes that first took place in late 2013. Clashes intensified on Monday and Tuesday night.

At least 18 people have been killed in clashes between Arabs and Berbers in Algeria's desert town of Ghrdaia, with several businesses burned down, medical sources and state media said on Wednesday.

Arab-Berber is a term to denote an inhabitant of the North African Maghreb who is of mixed Arab and Berber origin and whose native language is a dialect of Arabic and who also has an Arab ethnic identity.
