Secretariat fire: Minister says 'office and documents are intact'

Following the fire incident at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja earlier today, the Minister of State for Education, Viola Onwuliri, has said that no sensitive document was burnt in the accident.

She also said offices in the building were not affected.

“The offices and documents are intact. The fire service chief has assured that everybody is safe,” Onwuliri said.

The cause of the fire is still unclear, but the Operational Commander for the Federal Fire service, Ime Eyo assured that the cause will be uncovered by Friday, May 15.

“By tomorrow, I will be able to tell you what caused the fire outburst. As at now investigations are still on-going,” Eyo told Premium Times.

An eyewitness said, “I heard a loud sound and the light went off,” he said. “Just before I could check what went wrong, the whole place went dark. I was gasping for breath. I tried to put on my torch to see but it was so dark.”
