Images from the National Team's First Training Camp in the Jorge Jesus Era
The National Team kicked off their first training camp under Jorge Jesus on Monday. The 25 players selected by the coach for the UEFA Nations League Group A4 fixtures against Wales (September 24), Norway (September 27 and October 4), and Denmark (October 1) arrived at the Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras for their initial session with the Portuguese manager at the helm.
The Portuguese Football Federation shared images of several athletes arriving at the national football headquarters. Among them were Nuno Tavares, the Lazio full-back, João Palhinha, Benfica's midfielder, Samuel Soares, the Eagles' goalkeeper, and Fábio Silva, the Dortmund forward. These four players from the 25-man squad were not part of Roberto Martínez's selections for the 2026 World Cup. Of these, the latter two are making their absolute debut for the national team.
The training camp activities took place throughout the morning and early afternoon, concluding around 3 PM. The Portuguese players will not yet step onto the pitch, instead focusing solely on a recovery session. The first on-field training session is scheduled for Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday, a Portuguese international will speak to the media. The following day, Jorge Jesus will hold a pre-match press conference for the Wales game, his first as head coach of the National Team. This match will mark the beginning of Portugal's journey to defend the trophy won in 2025, in the final held in Munich.
