Crvena Zvezda finally broke the ice to capture their first victory of the new season.
Following another dramatic encounter overshadowed by a severe injury to Mike James, Zvezda survived Collin Malcolm's open look in the closing seconds to seal the win.
Visiting head coach Pablo Laso shared his initial post-game thoughts.
"First of all, congratulations to Zvezda on the win. We had an opportunity to win, but our shooting percentages didn't help us. We did a lot of things right to stay in the game during difficult stretches. We lost the game in the first half when we allowed ten offensive rebounds and committed eight turnovers. Congratulations to Zvezda on a hard-fought victory." — Pablo Laso
Laso first addressed Mike James' injury, though he could not elaborate on the extent of the issue.
"I'm a coach, not a doctor, but it doesn't look good. We'll run tests once we return to Istanbul tomorrow. It was tough for the team to see a player leave the court like that. Even so, we showed character, stayed in contention, and had a shot to win. There were positives and negatives, and I'm disappointed we didn't win a game we had within our reach." — Pablo Laso
Laso also drew comparisons between this season's roster and last year's squad.
"Last season was rough due to injuries, but we worked hard to improve. I think we put in a lot of work to boost our playmaking and bring in athletic players who can contribute in the rotation and on the boards. Those were our main targets during the summer." — Pablo Laso
The Spanish tactician also compared this Zvezda squad to the one from last season.
"Different team, different coach, different ideas, but I see a well-balanced team with scorers, strong playmakers, and good athleticism, who will have a solid season because Ibon is a fine coach." — Pablo Laso
To wrap up, Laso shared a laugh with the media after being asked if he would buy an apartment in Belgrade, as he had previously hinted.
"No, no, we won't be buying. Real estate prices here are very high." — Pablo Laso
