"I'll reveal something I've never shared before!" Kramer exclusively for Sportal: They cut me the day before departure, but one call changed everything

"I'll reveal something I've never shared publicly: after the World Cup, ahead of the Olympic Games, I was cut from the squad literally the day before departure. I was shocked and deeply disappointed. I went straight to the federation and said: 'I'm retiring from the German national team, I'm done, I'm not doing this anymore.' I went home, put my gear away, and told myself it was over. Then Alex Mumbru took over as head coach. As soon as he was appointed, he called me and said he wanted me in the team for the upcoming window. I told him: 'I'm done with the national team, I don't want to do it anymore.' He told me to hold on and said he wanted to talk. The very next day, he boarded a flight from Germany and flew to Tenerife just to have lunch with me! He arrived in the morning, we had lunch, and he flew back that evening. Actions speak louder than words. I saw that he genuinely believed in me. He told me he saw me as a vital part of the squad. I went to that window and played one of my best offensive games for the national team, scoring 43 points." - David Kramer
