Legendary striker Zlatan Ibrahimović was highly critical of winger Noni Madueke's performance during England's World Cup clash against Norway. The Swede offered a scathing analysis at halftime in Miami, with the score tied at 1-1. Ultimately, England secured the win after two goals from Jude Bellingham and extra time.
Ibrahimović's comments virtually foreshadowed the decision of Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel, as he sharply criticized the player's lack of contribution in the first half. Madueke was indeed substituted at halftime, having struggled significantly to make any impact on the game. The winger once again started on England's right flank at the World Cup, a move largely necessitated by Bukayo Saka's continued physical struggles with an Achilles issue that has plagued him for months.
"I think England is playing with one less player so far. Madueke was supposedly on the field, but I have to say, every time he got the ball, he made the wrong decision. He's just walking around. If I were Thomas Tuchel, I would substitute him immediately because he did absolutely nothing in those first 45 minutes. Even the hydration break didn't help him. He hasn't started every game, and now the 'Three Lions' were simply a man down," Ibrahimović stated.
Ibrahimović's prediction proved accurate, and Tuchel reacted promptly, bringing on Saka, who was far more effective in the second half and during extra time.
