Last season, Wade Baldwin reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the EuroLeague title with Fenerbahçe.
It was with the Istanbul giants that he truly matured, playing the best basketball of his career. His path to Fener led him through Maccabi and also Baskonia.
In the "Euroinsiders" podcast, he discussed how he ended up with the team from Vitoria.
I had an offer from a Russian team for 1,000,000 per season, but I chose Baskonia for 800,000 because I felt it was a better option. I wanted to test myself in the ACB League and play in the EuroLeague, but also to find a nice environment where my child could be born. I also liked the city, even though many, like Chima Moneke, say it's depressing.Wade Baldwin
During his time at Baskonia, Baldwin worked under Duško Ivanović. However, Wade stated that Duško was one of the worst coaches he's ever had.
Duško was my coach there, unfortunately. I hate him, I don't like him. He's one of the worst coaches I've ever had. It's a combination of everything… every coach has their own vision of basketball. I came after an excellent season at Bayern, where the ball was constantly in my hands. He took that away from me; instead, I was playing off 'pin-downs' and 'flares' to get the ball. I couldn't find my rhythm. On top of that, he's a completely unapproachable person and unwilling to adapt.Wade Baldwin
Throughout his career, Ivanović has coached Baskonia on four separate occasions, and has also managed Crvena Zvezda, Virtus, Panathinaikos, Barcelona, Khimki, Beşiktaş, among others.
