Although Hyundai has officially stated that it has no intention of homologating an updated "WRC Kit" for its Rally2 car to meet the top-tier 2027 regulations, rumours surrounding the South Korean manufacturer's plans refuse to subside. Speculation continues to swirl across the motorsport community that the team may already be carrying out development work with the new technical rules in mind.
Veteran test driver Kris Meeke is playing a pivotal role in these trials. The 47-year-old Briton knows Hyundai machinery inside out from the Portuguese Rally Championship, where he claimed the title two years ago behind the wheel of one of the brand's cars. Last season, Meeke switched to Toyota and finished runner-up in the same series.
This season, Meeke also competed in the European Rally Championship (ERC), securing victory in Wales in early autumn. Later this week, Meeke and his co-driver Stuart Loudon are set to line up for the season finale in Portugal.
According to reports from rallyjournal.com, Hyundai's testing in Central Finland is scheduled to run for another two days. The runs got underway on Monday in Kuhmoinen, with the crew continuing their work in the Jämsä region from Tuesday.
