England midfielder Jordan Henderson joked that it "wasn't his finest hour" after breaking his hand while celebrating the World Cup last-16 victory over Mexico last weekend. The former Liverpool captain didn't feature in the dramatic 3-2 win but still managed to pick up a yellow card and a serious injury, falling over an advertising hoarding during the post-match celebrations with the traveling England fans.
Henderson rejoined the England squad on Friday and was seen observing training with his hand in a cast. The 36-year-old Brentford player also participated in England's warm-up ahead of their quarter-final clash against Norway on Saturday evening.
"It's all good, thank you. It wasn't my best moment, but my main goal was to be there, win, and qualify for the quarter-finals. We managed to do that, so that's the main thing," Henderson said when asked about his hand by ITV.
"It's been a bit of a tough few days, but as soon as I got back to camp, I saw the lads, and we have a great medical team, for which I'm grateful. The doctors and surgeons in Kansas were also incredible, so I'm very thankful and happy to be back with the team today," he added, as quoted by DPA.
Henderson's only appearance at the World Cup so far was as a late substitute in the 2-0 group stage victory over Panama, but he will remain with Thomas Tuchel's squad for the remainder of the tournament.
