Celebrations in Norway for the team's performance at the World Cup in North America have been widespread, but fans in the capital, Oslo, might need rain gear when their team faces England in the quarter-finals on Saturday, as heavy downpours are forecast.

The team's five matches so far in the tournament have drawn tens of thousands of fans across Norway to outdoor viewing events, with supporters filling streets and squares to cheer on their team and celebrate together as they vie for their first World Cup title since 1998. However, a weather warning issued Friday morning for the southeastern part of the country has authorities and fans scrambling to revise their plans for Norway's biggest World Cup match since the women's team won the final in 1995.

"Locally heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected on Saturday afternoon and early evening," reported the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, issuing a 'yellow' weather alert. "In some areas, more than 20 mm could fall per hour. There is a risk of rainwater runoff in densely populated areas and water ingress into basements. There's also a risk of localized flooding, changes in stream and river courses, landslides, and flash floods where the heaviest rains occur."

Saturday's rain will put the country's meteorological maxim, "there's no bad weather, only bad clothes," to the test. The only silver lining for organizers is that the rain is expected to subside around 8:00 PM, with the match in Miami kicking off at 11:00 PM.
