He pleaded with Trump for help, now he's off to the final. Capdevila's drama takes an unexpected turn
His former national teammate, Marcos Senna, posted a photo on Instagram on Sunday with Capdevila by a plane, commenting: “Heading for the second star.” Spain won their only World Cup title to date in 2010, with Capdevila as a member of that squad. They could add a second star if they triumph in Sunday's final.
Capdevila was initially denied entry to the USA, prompting him to appeal to the American president on social media platform X: “I need help, Donald Trump. I’ve just been told I can’t travel to the final with my children because my ESTA was denied. Can anyone help me with this?
You can't imagine how much I was looking forward to being there with my 2010 teammates and this current squad to cheer them on. I can't believe they won't let me into the USA, and that I'll miss such a moment with my children, who love football so much.”
The 48-year-old Capdevila believed his ESTA was denied due to an exhibition match for Spanish league legends he played in Iran in 2016. It is not yet known what ultimately allowed his entry into the United States, as reported by DPA.
