Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence regarding his difficult spell at Arsenal, insisting he remains fully committed to the north London club and playing down transfer speculation after losing his starting spot to Kai Havertz early this season.
The 28-year-old striker has seen limited action so far, making just two appearances as a substitute. Following an up-and-down debut campaign—in which he was an unused substitute in May's Champions League final—the Sweden international is still searching for his first goal of the season, a dry spell that fueled reports of a potential exit in the summer or by 2027.
Speaking while on international duty with Sweden, the former Sporting CP forward insisted that leaving was never on the cards. "Of course there was a lot of speculation, but I had a full pre-season and felt good. I was completely focused on Arsenal. For me, staying was a given. I'm extremely happy at the club," the striker stated.
Despite intense competition up front, Gyokeres voiced his desire to regain his place in Mikel Arteta's side. "Naturally, I want to play as much football as possible, and I hope that happens. As a player, you always want to be out on the pitch. You always hope for more game time, but we have an exceptionally strong squad with many great players, and we've started well," the forward admitted, noting that he maintains constructive communication with the Spanish manager.
"Clearly, I need to do better, and I'm ready to do that, so there's no issue. The communication [with the manager] is good. I just try to make the most of every chance and score goals," he added. During the international break, Gyokeres took his international tally to 23 goals with strikes against Romania and Poland, looking ahead to fixtures against Bosnia and a reverse clash with Romania.
