Ahead of potential sanctions facing Manchester City, former manager Pep Guardiola has released a statement throwing his full support behind the supporters, the ownership, and the hierarchy, demonstrating that he still considers himself firmly part of the City family.
"I want every single Manchester City fan to know that I am here — more than ever. I stand behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran [Soriano], the players, the staff, Enzo [Maresca], and you — our incredible supporters. I always was, I am, and I always will be with you. Let me be clear: we will get through this together. Love you all," Guardiola wrote in a post on social media.
The Etihad outfit was found guilty of 114 of 115 total charges regarding breaches of Premier League financial rules. The verdict was delivered by the independent commission reviewing the case. The charges span the period from the 2009/10 season through to 2017/18, involving allegations of failing to provide accurate financial details, inaccurate reporting of player and managerial remuneration, breaches of UEFA financial regulations, and non-compliance with financial sustainability rules. Additionally, the club was accused of failing to cooperate with the Premier League during its investigation. City officials have consistently refuted all charges over the years, maintaining they hold comprehensive evidence in their defence.
Guardiola was at City during only two of the seasons under scrutiny — 2016/17 and 2017/18. He departed the club last summer.
