Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has defended his players after they were criticized for celebrating their 2-1 victory over Arsenal in a Premier League match. Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney labeled City's jubilation premature, suggesting it could backfire. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy also voiced criticism of the City stars' behavior.

“People can say whatever nonsense they want. The players celebrated because they understand the caliber of the opposition. They knew that if we didn't win, it would be goodbye to the title. They won, and we are still in the race. How could they not celebrate? No matter how much you respect your opponent and their fans, you can celebrate however you want,” Guardiola told The Guardian.

Arsenal currently leads the Premier League table with 70 points. Manchester City sits in second place, three points behind the Gunners, with a game in hand.
