Gryazin had been leading in WRC2 with an 8.5-second advantage over Robert Virves (Skoda). His Lancia teammate, Yohan Rossel, was in third, 20.7 seconds behind the leader.

Gryazin's crash occurred 9.9 kilometers into today's opening stage. His front right wheel struck something on the inside of a long right-hand corner, sending the car airborne. It then rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels.
