The Basic Education Certificate Examination organised by the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been shifted from May 8 to May 10.

NECO Registrar, Prof. Promise Okpala said a new date had to be fixed because of the closure of public institutions, including schools, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, due to the World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA).

Prof. Okpala the examination body decided not to release examination materials in some schools while other schools (in the FCT) were closed.
Delaying the examination and changing the date to accommodate the closed schools, he said, would ensure the credibility of the examination and allow for uniformity in the conduct of same.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination would now hold from the 10th to the 24th of May 2014.
