Bouhanni won three stages of the Giro d'Italia on his way to the red jersey, however, he was reduced to the role of spectator for the Tour de France.

The sprinter was surprisingly left out of the Tour in favour of Arnaud Demare, who did not win a stage and finished 20th in the points classification.

Before linking up with Cofidis, the 24-year-old Bouhanni will reportedly ride the Eneco Tour and the Vuelta a Espana for FDJ.

Meanwhile, Dutchman Lars Boom, winner of stage five of the Tour on the cobbles, has agreed to join Astana from Belkin.

Astana general manager Alexander Vinokourov said: "Boom is a classics rider as well as a Grand Tour team-mate, and won stage five this year at the Tour de France in conditions not seen on the pave [cobbles] in more than a decade."
