German Football Association Faces Significant Losses After Disappointing World Cup Campaign

The German Football Association (DFB) expects a revenue shortfall of approximately 10 million euros. The primary reasons are an early exit from the 2026 World Cup and the subsequent severance payment to coach Julian Nagelsmann following his dismissal.

Germany unexpectedly crashed out in the round of sixteen against Paraguay, losing in a penalty shootout. “We estimate the deficit at 9.4 million euros. The exact figure will be known at the end of the year,” DFB treasurer Stephan Grunwald stated, according to DPA.

Despite unforeseen expenses, including the severance package for Nagelsmann, who was originally slated to lead the German national team until Euro 2028, the DFB anticipates achieving a balanced budget in the long term.

“Our duty now is not to panic just because a bad scenario has unfolded. Next year, we will see what the change in the coaching position brings. Until then, we have certain options to financially adjust and limit some of our projects,” Grunwald clarified.
