The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed reaching an agreement with Jürgen Klopp to take over as national team coach, with the final hurdle being his current employer, Red Bull.
"DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice-President Hans-Joachim Watzke held discussions with Jürgen Klopp on Friday regarding his potential appointment as national team coach," the federation announced.
"During this communication, the principal terms of a potential contract were agreed upon. Negotiations will continue next week. Both parties are optimistic that, with the consent of Klopp's employer, Red Bull, an agreement will be successfully reached," the statement read.
"Any potential contract will require approval from the Supervisory Board of the DFB's General Assembly," the communiqué concluded.
Following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation, the 59-year-old Klopp emerged as the leading candidate for the position. From January 2025, the German is contracted with Red Bull as the global director of football development for the company.
